Welcome

“They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.”

Isaiah 61:4

Who is “they”?!

Where are these “places” that need restoring?!

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!

Over the next 10 months, I am on a journey where I will be attempting to answer all these questions and more via a leadership course called Soul61.

Who am I?

My name is Peter David Briggs, I’m 18 years old from Milton Keynes and am currently on a gap year after finishing my A Levels. I studied Design Technology: Product Design, English Lit+Lang and Psychology. After a gap year learning and serving at Soul61, I have a deferred place at Loughborough University waiting for me, to study BA Product Design – a long-held passion of mine.

I’ve been attending St Mary’s Church in Bletchley since I was six. As I have grown in my faith, I have developed a deep desire to serve and learn more about God. I went to Soul Survivor (a Christian festival) with the church for the fifth time this Summer (2019), where our curate (Matt Beer) felt God saying that I had a calling into leadership. Upon hearing this, it resonated with me, but I immediately thought to myself how unprepared and inadequate I was to be that kind of person.

That’s where Soul61 comes in.

What is Soul61?

This is how Soul61 describe the course:

“It’s a leadership course designed to build up Christ-like leaders. This is leadership that emphasizes the importance of serving, kindness, humility and character. It’s leadership that focuses on relationship with God and is the overflow of a love for Him. It’s leadership that is willing to lay aside reputation, comfort and self, in order to build something that is lasting, eternal and matters in the Kingdom of God.”

I’ve always wanted to dedicate a portion of my life to serving God and stepping out in my faith. Soul61 is enabling me to do just that. Over the 10 months of the course, I’m being taught ‘useful theology’ by some amazing teachers, participating in a voluntary placement with teams such as youth, outreach, social action, media, evangelism, kids, and community work, and helping with the general running of the Soul Survivor church and their events.

I’m very excited and I can’t wait to see what God does!
